Keeping Current
Stay with the grape
We heard a while back that wine I moderation was a heart disease preventive (actually the wine of choice seems to be a cabernet sauvignon, not just any rotgut). Now comes word that drinks with an alcohol concentration of 10 percent or more can prevent or reduce the severity of food poisoning. So that old wives tale (and she was no better than she should be, no doubt) that drinking alcohol might actually prevent food poisoning. The answer may not just be in the taste but in the known antibacterial properties of grapes, where it all begins.
